The lake Trasimeno with its surface of 128 squared Kms is the fourth Italian lake for extension. Despite this the middle depth is very low around 4,3 ms. It's unprovided of a natural emissary, it is fed from the rains and from small streams as the Most greater Line, the Tresa, the Moiano and the Maranzano, the Paganico and the Pescia. Since the ancient history an artificial emissary was created, so that to avoid the floods of the lake, this emissary built by the Romans to emperor Claudio's times, brought the waters in excess of the lake toward the river Tevere. In the lake there is a rich fish fauna, among which pikes, carps, cavedani, eels, persian and trouts. |

From about ten years the lake Trasimeno has suffered a strong due environmental pollution to the introduction of exotic kind of fish as the fish cat, the gilded carassio and the red shrimp of Louisiana, these new kinds have drastically reduced the fish fauna that was present in the lake. In the lake are present three islands the Polvese, the Most greater and the Young person.
