As already said, the part most important of the Cathedral is the Palatine Chapel, in style classic/byzantine and frank-Germanic, when it was realized it was the greatest North dome of the Alps. The teacher that dealt it with his realization was Oddone from Metz. The work was consecrated during Kings Magi's party in 804 from Pope Lion III.

The octagonal Chapel is tall around 31 meters, 16 meters diameter, it is sustained by eight imposing pillars, the number of the pillars is not casual, but it represented the Resurrection, because seven are the number of the time, more one, God, the octagonal construction was used in the construction of different sacred buildings as for instance the Basilica of St. Lawrence to Milan, the Basilica of St. Vitale in Ravenna and the Church of Saint Maria in Pole in Pavia. In 1978 the Cathedral of Aquisgrana was the first German monument to be inserted in the list of the Unesco of the Patrimonies of the humanity.
